experimental musical travel, 38 minutes (USA)
Meditations on the beauty of New Zealand, featuring the extravagant Jazz stylings of visionary sax player Joe Bezek.
The viewer is placed in a foreign landscape, surrounded by emotional musical inspirations and the stark traces of dialogue, similar to what one finds on a beautiful trail, or an early morning whale watch, or a terrifying attempt to bungy jump.
Waka brings the viewer gently through New Zealand without a narration, without a voice instructing how to interpret what one is feeling, only the raw feelings themselves are experienced through the masterful score by Joe Bezek and director Tom Florek.
